The Brand
That Trains.
Backstack started with a simple question: why does every weighted vest carry the weight in exactly the wrong place? We couldn't find an answer. So we built our own solution.
Why We Built Backstack
It started with weighted pull-ups. After years of training outdoors — parks, bars, bodyweight work — the only way to add load was a weighted vest. And every weighted vest had the same problem: the weight sits across your chest and torso, pulling you forward, restricting your shoulders, and limiting your range of motion on the exact exercises you're trying to overload.
We tried everything. Dip belts that swung and rattled. Backpacks stuffed with plates that weren't designed for it. Vests that made pulling movements feel worse, not stronger. Nothing worked properly.
The answer was obvious once we thought about it: the weight should sit high on the back, above the centre of gravity, where it's biomechanically natural for loaded carries and doesn't interfere with your chest, shoulders or arms. Like how a proper rucksack is loaded. Like how soldiers carry weight on long marches.
So we designed Backstack — a plate-loaded backpack that uses the Olympic weight plates already in every gym and garage, positions the load exactly where it should be, and includes resistance-band attachment points so it can do double duty as a conditioning tool. One product. Built right.
Three Things We Will Never Compromise On
Backstack is a single-product brand. We are not trying to build a catalogue. We are trying to build one thing and build it right. These are the principles that govern every decision we make.
We design for how the body actually works, not how it's most convenient to manufacture. The high-back load position exists because it's correct — not because it's easier to build than a vest.
Backstack works with the plates you already own. We will never sell proprietary weights or create artificial ecosystem dependency. You invested in Olympic plates — your investment should work with everything you buy.
Backstack is a premium product. We would rather charge a fair price for something built to last than cut corners to hit a cheaper price point. Every component is chosen for durability under serious training loads.
Meet Luke
I've been training outdoors for most of my adult life. Pull-up bars, dip stations, park benches — bodyweight training is where I feel most at home. But bodyweight training has a ceiling, and I hit it years ago.
The problem was always the same: how do you progressively add load to a pull-up without a belt swinging between your legs or a vest compressing your chest? I spent years trying different solutions. None of them were right.
Backstack came out of that frustration. I knew what the product needed to do — carry weight high on the back, use standard Olympic plates, lock them securely, and stay out of the way of the exercise. It took a long time to get right. But when we did, I knew it was the only product of its kind.
We're in pre-launch now and I couldn't be more excited to get Backstack into the hands of the people it was built for — serious athletes who train hard and demand proper equipment.
